WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON 3 BIG CHALLENGES SINCE 2019

From the very beginning, Paris La Défense Arena incorporated energy challenges into its development.

HIGH PERFORMANCE INSULATION

Our premises benefit from high-performance thermal and acoustic insulation. While ensuring sound comfort to spectators, it ensures uniform temperatures despite the weather conditions.

RAINWATER RECOVERY SYSTEM

The collected rainwater goes into an 800m³ storage tank located under the parking area. This water source covers 100% of the Softgrass lawn irrigation, eliminating the need for potable water. Despite being synthetic, the lawn requires watering to prevent player burns and provide better cushioning for falls.

SOLAR PANELS

34 solar panels have been installed in the roof of Paris La Défense Arena to collect solar energy and convert it into electrical energy. These solar panels are used to power a solar water heater for the brewery adjoining the enclosure.

An energy optimization strategy launched at the end of 201

Aiming for high performance premises, an energy optimization strategy was developed around three key axes:

  • Improving consumption patterns
  • Using less energy consuming equipment
  • Renegotiating energy contracts

Initial concrete actions on the energy management of the building (temperature controls, lighting management, consumption tracking, etc.) and user awareness (behavior improvements) yielded promising results by 2022.

Paris La Défense Arena undertakes the challenge of making its waste management policy a driving force for its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) strategy. With ambitious objectives, including reaching a recycling rate of 80% by 2025, the focus is on three specific areas:

  1. Waste reduction
  2. Improvement of waste sorting
  3. Ensuring better waste valorization

The setting up of an on site sorting center

Since May 2022, Paris La Défense Arena has established its own on-site waste sorting center. With the support of a specialist in sustainable waste management, a portion of the waste is sorted, compacted, and stored for transportation to treatment centers located in France. This process allows for the extraction of a greater variety of waste and ensures its valorization. Thanks to our innovation efforts, we have expanded the range of recovered and recycled waste, including the treatment of items such as paper towels.

REDUCING WASTE: PLASTIC

Since 2020, Paris La Défense Arena has collaborated with Racing 92 to eliminate plastic water bottles in the competition area. Thanks to the joint efforts of both entities, these bottles are no longer permitted during training sessions and matches. A system of reusable water containers has been implemented for players and staff to encourage reuse, and the installation of water fountains in the locker rooms ensures the refilling of the containers. This guideline has also been imposed on visiting teams!

Résultats :

Paris La Défense Arena wishes to be a significant actor in its local community and a connecting point between the business district of La Défense and the city of Nanterre. During its construction phase, Paris La Défense Arena dedicated 136,000 hours of work to residents of Nanterre, demonstrating its commitment to local integration.

SUPPORT FOR ISOLATED PEOPLE

In collaboration with Paris La Défense and the Hauts-de-Seine department, and under the supervision of the Red Cross, Paris La Défense Arena has been opening its doors to isolated individuals for several years. During the activation of Cold and Heat Emergency Plans, various spaces capable of accommodating around thirty people are made available. A resting area, with access to showers and sanitary facilities, as well as services provided by the Red Cross (meals, healthcare, etc.), are offered.

Our work with Le Chaînon Manquant

Paris La Défense Arena has been collaborating with Le Chaînon Manquant since March 2020, right from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. It began with providing the association with a cold room and parking spaces to enable them to continue their activities. Le Chaînon Manquant is an organization dedicated to fighting food waste and is actively involved in the La Défense area, redistributing food to those in need. Beyond logistical support during the pandemic, Paris La Défense Arena has partnered with the association to redistribute food that has not been sold from various events.

MOBILIZATION AGAINST COVID 19

Opening of one of the Largest Vaccination Centers in Île-de-France

During the widespread vaccination campaign against COVID-19, Paris La Défense Arena made its spaces available to host one of the largest vaccination centers in Île-de-France. This initiative, established in collaboration with ARS Île-de-France and the French Red Cross, facilitated the administration of 250,000 doses between May and September 2021.

HIVES TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT BIODIVERSITY

The year 2020 marked the arrival of a group of new residents at Paris La Défense Arena. We have set up two beehives and a smaller hive behind the building’s signage. These hives host a total of several thousand bees. Coming from the Racing 92 training center, these bees symbolize biodiversity.

An opportunity for our employeurs to be able to witness the extraction of the honey and to leave with a small jar of honey.
